In 1995 Carl Sagan’s final work, a book entitled “The Demon Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark”, was published mere months before his death. That work contained a rational process for discerning the truthfulness of claims. That process would eventually become known as Carl Sagan’s Baloney Detection Kit.
Never before have citizens of this nation been in such dire need of Sagan’s Baloney Detection Kit!
President Trump’s disdain for the truth and penchant for spreading falsehoods and lies have even alienated the editorial board of America’s premier GOP voice box – The Wall Street Journal. Last Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal chastised President Trump for indulging in a “seemingly endless stream of exaggerations, evidence-free accusations, implausible denials and other falsehoods.” The editorial concluded by warning the President that “if he doesn’t show more respect for the truth, most Americans may conclude he’s a fake President.”
Check out the Baloney Detection Kit. Use it to logically evaluate the claims of the President and his administration. I would be willing to bet that the President is able to wield all twenty of the argumentative fallacies cited in the kit in 140 characters or less! Sad.
